Off-Grid Homesteading
with Aquaponic CEA
FLP Acres Advisory Services
Don Sherman, co-owner of FLP Acres LLC offers advisory services for off-grid homesteading including commercial CEA. AT the 2024 Aquaponics Association Conference in Dallas, we presented "How to Build a Future of Health & Wellness, with Food, Energy & Water, and Financial Security". It shares our experience building an off-grid homestead with Aquaponic CEA, including:
FLP Acres is operated as a commercial farm and homestead in Hunterdon County NJ, located 50 miles form New York City & Philadelphia, and 20 miles from the Appalachian Trail. We are NJ licensed Aquatic Farmer and NJ licensed Hemp Grower. We follow organic protocols, with USDA Organic certification in progress.
Co-owner of FLP Acres Aquaponics Farm, licensed professional engineer (civil/environmental), aquatic farmer, and hemp grower. He has over 30 years of experience in project development and execution for over $20 billion USD of urban and rural infrastructure across the U.S. and over a dozen countries.
Don's public, private, and philanthropic client projects range from environmental management (air, water, and waste), transportation (land, air, and water), conventional and renewable energy production and storage, to IT/telecom/broadband networks for communication, facilities management, and security.
His first farm experience was cutting hay in college in Upstate NY. Living in the Midwest, Southeast, and Southwest, he sited and drilled groundwater wells ranging from 100,000 to 10 million gallons for water supply and irrigation.
Throughout his career, he was involved in planning, designing, and optimizing water supply and zero-discharge biological treatment and reuse systems using similar processes as the FLP Acres aquaponics system.
Whether small or large-scale, virtually every project involved land-use compatibility, environmental stewardship, and energy independence. As energy prices soar and supply chain disruptions leave grocery shelves empty, Don emphasizes planning to assure healthy, locally abundant food whether in the city or countryside.
Don is available to advise, coach, and train individuals and entrepreneurs in building a lifestyle of family and community sustainability, focusing on food, water, and energy security.
He can assist with project visioning & feasibility, planning & permitting, design & construction, startup & operations, as well as renovation & expansion.
